A diplomatic mission is a group of people from one state or an international inter-governmental organisation (such as the United Nations) present in another state to represent the sending state/organisation officially in the receiving state. In practice, a diplomatic mission usually denotes the resident mission, namely the office of a country’s diplomatic representatives in the capital city of another country. As well as being a diplomatic mission to the country in which it is situated, it may also be a non-resident permanent mission to one or more other countries. There are thus resident and non-resident embassies.

Duties

The position is located in the Financial Management Center, American Embassy Abuja and reports to the Financial Management Officer. The Class B Cashier is to provide cashiering services to the Mission community. The cashier supports 13 sub-cashiers and is authorized to provide support to 28 ICASS agencies including USDHs, LES and TDYers utilizing USD and Naira. Cash advance is $135,000 USD.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: 

• At least four (4) years of progressively responsible work in technical accounting or bookkeeping with at least two years performing cashiering work is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

• Must possess good working knowledge of local banking practices and procedures.

Education Requirements:

• University degree Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Economics is required.

LANGUAGE:  Fluent writing/reading/speaking English is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, ability to articulate complex issues and recommend appropriate solutions, ability to effectively utilize computer and financial software, excellent customer service skills, ability to delegate effectively. Keyboard and typing skills are required where accuracy is required but speed is not important.
• Numerical skills for calculations and confirming financial transactions is required.
• Ability to use Microsoft outlook, word and excel and proprietary software is required.
